Artist Statement
Welcome welcome! This is my art portfolio/author page–a collection of my most beloved works and most exciting upcoming projects. I have always loved to make art as a way to deal with ideas, words, and conflicts I can’t solve any other way.
I love using art to explore mental illness, gender dysphoria, trauma, and interpersonal drama. These are the things so many of us love to keep hidden, keep hidden as a necessity of reputation and social pressures. In my opinion, there is something therapeutic about everyone knowing your mistakes.
My artwork works in combination with my fascination and love of writing. A lot of my works are inspired by poetry, either my own, or some of the poetic greats, like Milton, Whitman, and Kerouac. My process is to read or write a poem and then digitally construct an image around the narrative/vibe of the poem.
I see and, I believe others see, catharsis in my work. In fact I would call that the central theme of all my works. Catharsis.
As my skill as a digital artist has progressed, I have started translating my works into physical pieces through creation of knitting and embroidery charts based on my work.
I am currently on the second time through this process with a piece I really love.
It is my hope to find a residency or fellowship which will allow me to dedicate the necessary time and space to such large and laborious works as these tapestries and embroidery projects call for!
